Why is my data not working on my Android?

We know how frustrating it can be, you’ve purchased your eSIM, followed the setup steps, and yet… no connection. You’re definitely not alone. There are a few common reasons why mobile data might not be working properly on Android devices with an eSIM.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through the possible issues and show you how to fix them quickly so you can get back online without the headache. Let’s get started!

Common reasons why your cellular data may not be working

These are the most common issues that can prevent mobile data from working properly on your Android device with a Free Roaming eSIM. If you’re using a Samsung, Xiaomi, or Pixel, check this guide to make sure you’re not overlooking any important details:

  • Your phone may be locked by your carrier.
  • Your eSIM may have expired.
  • You haven’t arrived at your destination yet.
  • Your eSIM might not be activated correctly.
  • You may have purchased an eSIM for the wrong destination.
  • Your network settings might be incorrect.
  • The eSIM APN may be misconfigured.
  • A weak signal can disrupt the connection.
  • There may be temporary issues with the provider’s network.
  • The device may have hardware or software issues.

How to fix Free Roaming data connection issues on Android?

Even if your device is unlocked, set to the correct destination, and running the latest software, data issues can still happen. Don’t stress—just follow these steps to get reconnected.

1. Check if your eSIM is activated on your Phone

If you’re not sure whether your Free Roaming eSIM is working on your Samsung, Pixel, Huawei, Xiaomi, Honor, Vivo, Motorola, Nokia, Sony, OnePlus, and Oppo device, follow these steps to confirm and set it up correctly.

To activate your Free Roaming eSIM on Android:

  • Go to Settings > Connections > SIM Manager > Turn off the personal SIMs/eSIMs to avoid extra charges with your home country’s carrier > Turn your Free Roaming eSIM ON > Select the Free Roaming eSIM in Mobile data (This will either have the name you chose or the number of the last installed eSIM) > Then, go back to Connections > Tap on Mobile networksTurn on Data Roaming of your Free Roaming eSIM to start your data plan.

2. Switch On/ Off Airplane Mode

If you’re having issues with your Free Roaming eSIM, try something simple: turn on Airplane Mode. This temporarily disconnects all network connections and can help fix minor connectivity issues. Here’s how to do it:

  • Enable Airplane Mode for 30 seconds > then turn it off > After that, check that your Free Roaming eSIM and data roaming are active > test your connection.

3. Manually Select a Network Operator

If your eSIM isn’t working properly, it may be because your device isn’t connected to the most optimal network. Perform a manual network search and try connecting to another available one to restore the connection.

To manually select a network for your Free Roaming eSIM on Android:

  • Go to Settings > Tap on Connections > Select Mobile Networks > Choose Network operators > Disable Select automatically option and wait for available operators to load > Then try one by one all the operators listed (each time you select one wait 30 seconds while it connects to the network)  > Choose the operator with the best signal for you > Test your network.

4. Switch to 4G or LTE

In certain regions, 5G coverage may be unreliable. For a more stable connection with your eSIM, we recommend manually selecting 4G or LTE.

To manually switch to 4G or LTE on Android:

  • Go to Settings > Tap on Connections > Select Mobile Networks > Tap Network mode > Select 4G or LTE > Choose the one that generates the best signal for you > Test your network.

5. Reset Network Settings

If your mobile data still isn’t working after trying the previous solutions, we recommend resetting your network settings. This can fix internal errors that may be affecting your eSIM’s connectivity.

To reset network settings on Android:

  • Go to Settings >  Connection General Management > Reset >  Reset mobile Network Settings > Reset Settings.
