Is my phone unlocked to use with another carrier?

While many modern phones support eSIM, some carriers lock them to prevent use with other networks. Heard the term “unlocked phone”? Here’s what it means, how to check if yours is unlocked, and what to do if it’s not.

Having an unlocked phone means you can use it with any network, no restrictions. It’s ideal for travelers who want to take full advantage of eSIM benefits without complications.

How to check if your iPhone is unlocked?

To check if your iPhone is unlocked and ready to use an eSIM, just follow these steps:

  • Go to Settings General > About > Scroll down until find Carrier Lock > If you see ¨SIM Locked¨ your iPhone is locked. If you see “No SIM restrictions”, your iPhone is unlocked and ready to use an eSIM.

How to check if your Android phone is unlocked?

To check if your Android is unlocked and ready to use an eSIM, just follow these steps:

  • Go to Settings > Tap on Connections > Select Mobile networks > Choose Network operators > Turn off Select automatically to view available operators. If you only see your carrier name, your phone is locked, but If you see names of several providers different from yours, it means your Android is unlocked.

Troubleshooting tips:

  • If your phone supports eSIM but is locked, contact your carrier to request a network unlock. Once unlocked, you’ll be able to use eSIM with other providers.
  • Once your eSIM compatible phone is unlocked, you can easily set up the eSIM and start using the service. We recommend installing the eSIM a day before your trip and activating the data once you arrive at your destination.
