Why am I receiving text messages (SMS) on my eSIM?

When you travel abroad with your Free Roaming eSIM, you may receive SMS messages in other languages. This is completely normal and typically depends on the local network provider you connect to.

For example, in destinations like Taiwan, Singapore, or Hong Kong, it’s common to receive messages from the provider CMLink regarding Real Name Registration, a local requirement.

If you receive one of these messages, complete the form provided to avoid any disruptions to your connection and ensure full access to data services.

Can I text with eSIM?

Free Roaming eSIMs are mostly only data plans. This means they do not include traditional voice or SMS services. However, you can use any messaging app that works over mobile data to stay in touch.

Alternative Options for Sending SMS with a Data-Only eSIM

  • You can use iMessage on your iPhone, as it only requires a Wi-Fi or mobile data connection. This makes it a great option when using a data-only eSIM.
  • If you have a Dual SIM phone, you can keep your personal SIM active to receive SMS, such as app verification codes from services like Uber or your bank. Just make sure your SIM or eSIM is active. Free Roaming does not charge for these messages, but your mobile carrier may apply roaming fees, so it’s important to check with them to avoid unexpected charges.
  • Use internet-based messaging apps if you prefer not to use your main SIM.
