ToggleWhat Is eUICC, and How does It work?
The eUICC (Embedded Universal Integrated Circuit Card) is the “brain” behind the eSIM. Thanks to this software, you can have multiple mobile plans on a single device and switch carriers without swapping SIM cards, a more convenient, flexible, and modern way to stay connected.
eUICC vs eSIM
The eUICC is the physical component within the device that enables eSIM functionality. While they’re often confused, the eUICC manages profiles, while the eSIM refers to the digital feature that allows you to connect to different mobile networks.
- eUICC is the hardware that manages carrier profiles, while eSIM is the digital technology that enables mobile connectivity.
- eUICC allows for remote provisioning of multiple SIM profiles, while eSIM enables profile switching and service activation without physical SIM cards.
- eUICC is built into the device, while eSIM refers to the digital functionality provided by the eUICC to connect to mobile networks.
- eUICC handles connectivity in the background, while eSIM allows users to easily switch between profiles.
To Keep in Mind
If you encounter any eUICC-related errors on your device, such as difficulties in downloading or activating an eSIM profile that prevent network connectivity, we recommend turning off any inactive eSIMs and removing expired ones that you no longer intend to use. This issue may arise because you have reached the limit of installed and activated profiles on your eSIM-compatible device.
Please note that specifications can vary by model.
Troubleshooting tips
If you’re unable to add more eSIMs to your device, don’t worry, you can easily remove the ones you no longer use. Here’s how to do it on both iPhone and Android.
