When does my eSIM activate, and when does it start?

Your Free Roaming plan starts when you activate your eSIM in your destination country—not when you install it. That means you can install it before your trip without worry. Here’s how to check if your eSIM is active and when your plan starts counting. We’ll guide you step by step!

To keep in mind

  • On iPhones running iOS 16.4 or later, the eSIM may activate automatically upon installation, which could cause your plan to begin before you reach your destination. This is specific to iPhones.
  • If you’re using one of these versions, we recommend installing the eSIM only once you’re at your destination and connected to Wi-Fi. If you prefer to install it before traveling, make sure to disable the line and turn off data roaming to prevent early activation.

Troubleshooting tip

If your Free Roaming eSIM activates earlier than expected, turn it off and disable data roaming to ensure your plan doesn’t start before you’re ready. This way, your eSIM will be ready when you need it, and you’ll know exactly when your days or data begin counting.
