The eSIM data plan starts counting from the moment you activate the eSIM on your device, not when you install it by scanning the QR code.
After scanning the code, the eSIM will be downloaded, and you will have the option to activate it. Activating data roaming starts the plan’s usage. If you do not activate the eSIM, the plan days will not begin, and you can activate it later, ideally when you arrive at your destination.
Purchase in advance: You can buy an eSIM at any time and activate it when you need it. There’s no rush to scan the QR code immediately after purchase, as this does not start the data plan.
When to activate your eSIM? Ideally, activate the eSIM on the day your trip begins to make the most of each day of the plan. For example, if your trip to the U.S. is from June 1 to June 5 and you have a 5-day eSIM, activate the plan on June 1 to cover the entirety of your stay.
Activating the eSIM before you reach your destination could start the plan prematurely, especially if you activate data roaming before arriving. Therefore, it is recommended to do so upon arrival at your destination.
