How to Install an eSIM on a Xiaomi?

You have two ways to install your eSIM on your phone: by scanning a QR code or entering the details manually. Here’s the step-by-step process for each option.

To install an eSIM on Xiaomi with a QR Code:

  • Go to Settings > Select Mobile Networks > Tap on Use eSIM to activate the eSIM option > Then go to Manage eSIM > Add mobile Plan > Scan QR Code > Tap Add Continue with activation.

To install an eSIM on Xiaomi using manual codes:

  • Go to Settings > Select Mobile Networks > Tap on Use eSIM to activate the eSIM option > Then go to Manage eSIM > Add Mobile Plan > Add manually instead  > Copy and paste the full activation code for Android that was sent to your email (including LPA and the colon ‘:’. This is not a link, but rather a code to be entered in the designated space) > Tap Ok > Then Add > Continue with activation.

How to activate an eSIM on your Xiaomi?

Ideally, you should activate your eSIM once you reach your destination. But if you activated it in advance, don’t worry. You can simply deactivate it and turn off roaming until you’re ready to connect.

Follow these steps to activate your Free Roaming eSIM on your Xiaomi device:

  • Go to Settings > Select Mobile networks > Check the Use eSIM option is activated > Disable your Personal SIM > Choose your Free Roaming eSIM > Tap on Turn on > Go back to Mobile networks > Tap on Data roaming > International roaming > Select Always.

To keep in Mind:

  • eSIM compatibility can vary depending on where your device was made and the carrier you are using.
  • The manual code isn’t a link. Just copy it and paste it into the provided field without any spaces, making sure it’s entered fully.
  • If your Xiaomi has two SIMs, when activating an eSIM, you can only use one SIM and the eSIM at the same time. Remember that only one of them can use mobile data.
  • Once you arrive at your destination, make sure to turn off your primary SIM to avoid extra charges for data roaming.
