How to activate an eSIM on Oppo?
Ideally, you should activate your eSIM once you’ve arrived at your destination. But if you activated it in advance, don’t worry. You can simply deactivate it and turn off roaming until you’re ready to connect.
Follow these steps to activate your Free Roaming eSIM on your Oppo device:
- Go to Settings > Select Mobile network > Disable your Personal SIM/eSIM to avoid additional charges from your carrier > Make sure the eSIM is activated by tapping on the eSIM option and turning on the button next to it.
- Tap the three dots next to the Data eSIM of the installed Free Roaming eSIM and select “Enable” to ensure proper activation > Then, go back to Mobile network and select your Free Roaming eSIM > Turn on the Enable switch > Toggle the Data roaming switch.
To keep in mind:
- eSIM compatibility with Oppo devices may vary depending on the carrier and country of manufacture.
- Remember, the manual code is not a link. You only need to copy and paste it exactly into the designated field without any spaces.
- For Oppo devices with eSIM and Dual SIM support, you can use both a physical SIM and the eSIM simultaneously, but only one can be active for mobile data at a time.
- Once you reach your destination, make sure to disable your main SIM to avoid extra charges for data roaming.
- Ensure your Oppo phone is updated to the latest software version for optimal eSIM performance.
Troubleshooting tips
If, after activating data roaming your eSIM isn’t connecting, don’t delete your eSIM, you may need to select the network manually. Here’s how to do it step by step:
- Go to Settings > Select Mobile Network > Choose your Free Roaming eSIM > Tap on Operator > Toggle on the Auto-Select switch > Tap on Off to confirm > Wait for the available networks to load, then select the carrier with the best signal and connection > Try browsing again.
- Try one by one the operators that you see on your screen. If the connection doesn’t work with the operator you switched to, try the other operators listed > Choose the one that gives you the best signal and connection > Try browsing again.
To choose the correct operator for your plan, follow these steps:
- Go to freeroaming.io and search for your eSIM destination, for example, Spain. Click on Technical Specs and refer to the Networks section. In this case, the best network for the Spain plan is Orange.
- If the connection doesn’t work with the operator you selected, try switching to the other operators listed in the Technical Specs of your plan.
